Refinish Hardwood Floorsardwood Floors
When your hardwood floors become worn and lose their sheen, our techniques will restore their appearance with a beautiful, smooth finish. The refinishing process includes sanding and scraping the floors down to the natural wood. We use what is called a dustless process, which means our machines vacuum as they’re sanding, so the process is very clean. We then apply three coats of acrylic finish (we also use oil base finish if requested).
After the sanding, we apply the first coat. After about an hour to an hour and a half, we do a buffing process, which is just a light sanding. Next, we apply the second coat, giving it the same drying time and buffing process. Buffing between coats enables the floor to become very smooth once the last coat is applied. For the third coat, you will choose a high gloss, semi-gloss, or satin finish.
Three to four hours after the last coat is applied, you can walk in the area with socks and move furniture using felt padding (do not drag furniture across the floors, but lift and place it). However, if you have area rugs, you must wait seven days before you can lay them down again. The floors should be maintained in this manner for the first 36 hours after the last coat of finish is applied.
